This multi-phased project involved renovating one of the prominent commercial buildings in the town of Wakefeild, Massachusetts. This mixed use building consists of the Farmland grocery store, Giulio’s Bakery, additional retail spaces, and rentable office spaces on the second floor.
The first phase of this project consisted of the renovation of existing retail space into a new bakery and adjoining retail space.
The next phase addressed primarily the building envelope. The front façade’s white aluminum siding was replaced with more contextually appropriate materials. The grocery store’s entry marquee reflects on the building’s history as a movie theater which was destroyed by fire in the early Seventies. Other aspects of this phase included site improvements, interior renovations of the grocery store, and preparation of the second floor for the third phase of construction.
The third phase focused on the completion of the renovation of the second floor. Handicapped access was achieved in this phase by means of a new entrance lobby, a new elevator, and accessible toilet rooms.
